Here at Leaf Gardens, we recently undertook the transformation of a small outdoor space for a holiday let nestled in the serene Peak District, Derbyshire.

Project Overview

The goal was to craft a welcoming garden where guests could relax, dine, and take in the stunning countryside views. The existing space was a combination of an old driveway and a lawn on a steep slope, posing a significant challenge. While a design had been proposed by a Garden Designer, Leaf Gardens collaborated closely with the client to make adjustments, ensuring the final product met all their needs.

Services Provided

Using traditional Derbyshire Stone for the steps, walls, and coping stones, we combined it with Tumbled Indian Sandstone for the paving, pointed with sand and cement. We also installed stone blocks along the side of the reshaped main driveway and erected a curved fence to ensure the safety of guests’ pets. A Beech hedge was planted to soften the fence, and thoughtful planting ensured the garden would remain visually appealing throughout the year.

“The garden area was lovely too and very peaceful.”

What the clients said

The clients were confident in their decision to work with us, having been recommended by their Garden Designer from a previous project. They had minimal concerns, trusting Leaf Gardens to deliver the project on time and within budget.

“We were lucky with the weather and so also got to make use of the lovely garden and bbq”

– Laura from AirBNB

Design Process and Collaboration

Although the clients had pre-approved plans, we worked closely with them, incorporating minor tweaks to better suit the property’s needs. This collaboration helped fine-tune the original design, enhancing the final outcome.

Project Timeline and Challenges

The fencing needed to be curved in order to suit the unique original shape of the garden and landscape. However we took on the challenge and the results speak for themselves…

“Our dogs came with us and we’re able to run freely in the enclosed garden which was great.”

– Blue from AirBNB

The project spanned seven weeks, with delays caused by challenging weather conditions in the winter months of Derbyshire. Despite these setbacks, the project remained flexible to accommodate client changes and requests.

Materials and Logistics

Access to the site was a significant hurdle, with a narrow drive entrance off a single-track country lane and a winding driveway. This meant all materials had to be delivered in smaller vehicles, and only smaller skips could be used for waste removal.

Outcome and Client Benefits

The newly landscaped garden has elevated the entire guest experience at the AirBNB, contributing to its ranking within the top 1% on the platform. The carefully selected materials and well-thought-out planting have not only beautified the space but created a lasting and functional outdoor area that guests can enjoy year-round.

“We felt right at home and really loved the use of the beautiful outdoor space”

– Katie from AirBNB

We’re proud to have demonstrated our flexibility and vision by adapting a well-prepared plan and delivering a garden that exceeded expectations. By maintaining open communication and offering expert solutions, we ensured the project was completed to a high standard, creating a space that guests love and owners are proud of.
